With few exceptions, white wines are made from white grapes. Most of these quality wines are intended for early enjoyment and should be drunk young. The acidity is usually higher than in red wines, the alcohol content is usually lower. High-quality crescences can be stored for up to 30 years and longer without losing quality. Riesling in particular is one of the finest white grape varieties and is mainly cultivated in Germany, Austria and France (Alsace).

These wines are made from red grape varieties and, in contrast to white wines, are fermented on the mash or briefly heated. The main difference to white wines is the higher content of tannins (tannins), which are in the skins of the berries and are extracted through the special winemaking process. Large and complex red wines, which in Germany are often made from Pinot Noir, but increasingly also from Dornfelder, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot, should be allowed to mature.

Rose wines are made by processing the red grapes like white wine grapes. Must and skins only stay in contact for a relatively short time, depending on the desired color intensity from pale pink to rosé. If necessary, some red wine can be added to the wine. These wines, which often taste fresh and sparkling, are usually intended for immediate enjoyment. A specialty from southern Germany is the so-called Schillerwein or Rotling, which is pressed together from red and white grapes. In Germany, rosé wines can also be called Weißherbst if the label states the grape variety from which the wine was exclusively made.

We focus on first-class wines and high quality. This is the only way we can offer you exceptional wines at a good price-performance ratio. That's why we sell international wines at fair prices. Try wines from our range. Whether wines from France, Spain or Italy, crémants (champagne) or spirits, we will be happy to advise you.

White wine wholesalers

White wines are winning over a growing fan base, not least because of their enormous variety of aromas. This makes them the ideal accompaniment for a variety of different dishes and a refreshingly fruity alternative for warm summer days - provided they are properly cooled.
In our wine wholesale you will find a selection of wonderful white wines from all over the world. Discover the fine nuances of excellent white wines in all their fullness and the special features of the different grape varieties.

History of white wine

It is said that there is evidence that white wine was made in present-day Iran more than 7,500 years ago. It is also believed to have been made in Mesopotamia and various parts of the Middle East. Later, the Greeks and Romans also grew wine. They were responsible for spreading production throughout the Mediterranean. Mainly red wine was produced, but there is evidence that white wine was also produced. Then, after the fall of the Roman Empire, the Catholic Church was responsible for the care of the vineyards, as well as for the preservation and expansion of winemaking knowledge. Only in modern times and the industrial revolution did white wine become accessible to everyone. Advances in technology and understanding of microbiology made it possible to produce more and make white wine available to most people.

White wine - from must to fine wine

In contrast to the production of red wine, in the production of white wine, only the pressed grape must is fermented into white wine without the skin and seeds. This explains the white wine's light color and lighter, fresh taste. With this method, either red or white grapes can be processed into white wine, such as Blanc de Noir.

Harvesting, squeezing and pressing: The grapes are destemmed and crushed by machine immediately after harvesting. The free-running juice is collected and the grape mash is then pressed.
Special yeast is added to the must for fermentation. Winemakers control the fermentation process by regulating the temperature. After a few days of fermentation, the sugar contained in the grapes is converted into alcohol.
For further processing, the white wine is filled into steel tanks, wooden barrels or bottles, where it develops its individual aromas in different maturation times.
Many winemakers adapt the production process to produce a wide range of different white wines and sell them through wholesale wine.

White wine by production or aging process:
  • Young wines: unaged white wines. These are mostly fresh and fruity with a good aromatic intensity. They are meant to be enjoyed immediately, but some will develop very well over time in the bottle.
  • Barrel-fermented or barrel-aged wines: After fermentation, the wine is barrel-aged. During this time, the wine gains toasted, caramelized, and smooth aromas.
  • Wines aged on lees: This can be done in all types of containers. Aging on lees means that the wine stays in contact with some yeasts from fermentation to give structure to the liquid.
  • Liqueur wines: These are wines that have undergone oxidative or biological aging and have been topped up with wine alcohol. Sherry wines are the best known in this group.

Is that correct? The most important questions about white wine

How long can white wine be stored?

Very fresh, sparkling white wine is best enjoyed within a year. In principle, most white wines should not be stored for longer than 2-3 years. White wines in premium quality or with natural residual sugar can usually be stored longer.

Is white wine only good with salads and light dishes?

Contrary to popular belief, white wine goes very well with cheeseboards - its pronounced acidity beautifully complements the round, delicate flavor of fatty cheeses. Red meat also goes very well with a dry white wine when served with a light, creamy sauce.

Should a good white wine always be dry?

The image of sweet wines has suffered greatly in this part of the world due to the industrial production of inferior quality wines. However, wine connoisseurs appreciate the complexity of a fine selection.

Red wine wholesale

Red wine complements most dishes very well with its full-bodied, robust taste. The contemporary selection goes well with steak and burgers, as well as chicken, fish or pork. With interesting, flavorful choices, the thought of serving red wine with fish no longer strikes you with horror. Choose the right red wine to unwind after dinner or pair your choice with a hearty meal.

Combine wine with food - tip from the wine wholesaler

Wine drinkers pair their favorite red wines with almost every meal imaginable. The most classic combination is Cabernet Sauvignon wine and steak. The strong taste of the Cabernet Sauvignon also withstands adventurous sauces and spicy dishes. Replace beer with Malbec wine, a laid-back red wine that pairs well with a burger. The high acidity of the extremely versatile Pinot Noir goes well with duck, pork, chicken and mushrooms. Like Pinot Noir, Merlot wine pairs well with most foods, including grilled meats, mushrooms, garlic and fruit.

Cultivation of red wine

Red wine has been cultivated and consumed by humans for at least eight thousand years. Because red wine grapes need a warm climate to grow, cultivation spread from the Middle East to southern Europe. With the Roman Empire, red wine grapes also reached France, Italy and Spain, where they found perfect growing conditions. These countries are still considered traditional red wine countries, while wine-growing countries in the north such as Germany or Austria only began to produce red wine on a large scale after the grape varieties had been further developed - and certainly also due to climate change.(Source: Wein wholesale)

Warm climate and many years of experience are the key factors for a good red wine.
Red wine production differs from white wine production in two important ways:

  • Red wines can only be made from red grape varieties.
  • In the case of red wines, the grape mash is fermented with the skin and seeds, while in the case of white wines, only the pressed must goes into the fermentation tank.

After the harvest, the red wine grapes are crushed and, depending on the desired type of wine, fermented on the skins for a few days to a month to release the color and tannins from the grape skins. After fermentation, the grape mash is pressed. The acids contained in the young wine are usually reduced with the help of malolactic fermentation in order to achieve a harmonious aroma. The wine then matures in wooden barrels or steel tanks, usually for up to two years, until it is bottled.

Red grapes produce an amazing variety of red wine varieties. From the strongest, heartiest red wines to elegant and dry red wines to sweet and simple picnic classics. In addition to the region of origin of the grape and the type of processing, the most important influence on the end product is the variety of the grape. In fact, there are only 32 main varieties of red wine grapes, from which winemakers can create a multitude of variations of red wine in their cellar. Below we have listed some of the most important types of red wine that you can order from us in wine wholesale:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon - Native to Bordeaux, known worldwide
  • Merlot - Originates from France in the Bordeaux area
  • Pinot Noir - From the area between Lake Geneva and the Rhône Valley
  • Zinfandel - a grape variety native to Croatia
  • Shiraz - originally from the French Rhône Valley
  • Malbec - has its origins in the French province of Quercy
  • Tempranillo - cross between the Albillo Mayor and Beneticto grape varieties

Which red wine is the best? This decision is always a question of personal taste. Whether young, modern, robust classics or harmonious, full-bodied red wines - resellers will quickly find what they are looking for in our wholesale wine shop.

We will be happy to provide you with an overview of our wines and a price list on request.
